The Number Twelve Looks Like You – Put On Your Rosy Red Glasses

I’m not a huge grindcore fan. That being said, there’s something about The Number Twelve Looks Like You that makes them a bit more interesting to me then most others. "Put On Your Rosy Red Glasses" is a reissue of their 2003 record (the original had a limited pressing) and it’s a blast that straddles the line between grindcore and outright metal. The track "Civeti Dei" crosses the 6 minute mark, making it one of the longer songs in this genre I’ve heard and it’s a great one, lurching between melody and chaos. Others, like "December. Grace Budd" (a 1 minute reading of a letter by murderer Albert Fish) the last "untitled" track (silence followed with a 10 second bit of noise) and "Empty Calm" (hey, you got your acoustic guitar in my noise) are weird padding that I could have done without.
Still, the good outweighs the bad. "If These Bullets Could Talk", "Don’t Get Blood On My Prada Shoes" and the previously mentioned "Civeti Dei" are some of the best grindcore songs I’ve heard since Napalm Death. Now that’s a compliment.
