If there’s one thing I could say about the Allston/Brighton area of Boston, it’s that there have been many bands I’ve loved who have come out of there. One of the latest releases from this local mecca of rock are the Blood Vessels. Their first album is a self-titled, tightly produced piece of excellence that fits into the sound that people associate with the city while definitely showing other influences. The opener, "Catholic Zombies" is a lurching blast of New Bomb Turkish noise and roll, and the album is off and running. "Escape From My Brain", "Don’t Care", "Not Funny", the whole damn thing is great. If this album had come out in January instead of this past December I’d already have a contender for my favorite album of 2007. I may cheat at the end of the year and include it anyways. If you like your punk and or rock to kick you in the ass then check these guys out.
