It’s Casual

It’s Casual
The New Los Angeles
Friendly Hills Recording Company

I love getting random CD’s sent to me that turn out to be fantastic records I might have missed out on. While this is the third release by the It’s Casual, this is the first I’ve actually heard of them. The band gets tagged with Black Flag comparisons, and while that works fairly well, I’d venture out a bit further and say they actually sound like early Rollins Band as played by Black Flag. It’s actually more like a harsher Rollins fronting a band that listened to a lot of Bl’ast! and wanted to mix that with The Melvins. As mentioned, this is their third record, and “The New Los Angeles” is a concept album of sorts, all songs are about that particular city and it’s police, buses and more. Hard, loud and fucking excellent is my overall opinion of this entire album, I dig the music and the harsh vocals work great. The fact that this was made by a duo and not a full band is some impressive stuff. Check it out if you miss your SST, you should like it.

Visit the band on their Myspace page. I’m not entirely sure if this has actually been released yet, I was unable to find an online store with it… please comment or send me an email if you see it anywhere so I can update this.

Right arm bro! Good stuff there. How can you go wrong with that list of influences? I dig their name too, a reference to a classic 80′s teen flic.

I just scored an Annihilation Time CD
that has a similar Bl’ast Flaggish -Manchuhead kind
    of thing goin’ on. Also
    good.

Yeah, The New Los Angeles is actually in stores now or you can order it through the band’s myspace page. I believe the main distribution for the new record is being handled by both Carrot Top and Cobraside too.

Seen the band a couple times locally and they are all that and then some. Incredible amount of fire and brimstone being mustered by a mere two-piece act.

Absolutely ferocious and they embody the essence of what real hard core punk was all about in the first place succinctly.

    They destroy live too.
