You know I'm about the same as you, I didn't have it as bad as some but life was still no bed of roses. Music was always a love of mine but hearing that first Black Flag, Dead Kennedys or Ramones tune on the Rodney show took me somewhere else. The world didn't make a lot of sense to me at the time, and the music may not have helped me make any more sense of that world, but somehow "I" made sense and it felt good to be angry with the world. A lot of people were too punk rock for me and to this day you see that. It was never a show I put on it seemed just natural. Your reflections are always spot on Mike, thanx for that.

I think everyone back in the eighties had to have some kind of underlying "issues" in order to align themselves with something that was so reviled by society (except those kids that were punks one week, rockabilly the next, and maybe mods the week after that, and you covered the adult version of them last week). I know I did. Punk rock didn't exactly save my life, but it certainly made life more bearable.

theonlytruepunk - Thanks for writing in. I'm glad people are connecting to what I'm writing. Whether I listen to this music daily or ignore it for five years I wear it like a tattoo. It became so much a part of me, my thought process, I wear it, it's me. I didn't know if I would ever be able to articulate this, but slowly it's emerged in this column.

Thanks for reading - Mike E.

YOu know, Mike, I could not have said it better. "Punk" did something for me that nothing else ever could. I loved the raw energy, the lyrical content and the whole experience of dressing the way I wanted to, etc. It is perfect. I don't feel I can ever let it go like so many others have. Thanks again and The record is great.
